Interconnection Project Manager
Location: Upstate New York
Start Date: January 2026
Contract Length: 12-18 months
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of large-scale renewable energy projects, specifically focused on the grid interconnection phase. This role will oversee all technical and execution-related aspects of interconnection facilities—from late-stage development through construction—with an emphasis on high-voltage infrastructure such as collector substations and switchyards.
The selected candidate will ensure compliance with interconnection requirements, manage complex stakeholder coordination, and drive projects successfully through pre-construction, engineering, procurement, and field execution milestones. This includes oversight of engineering studies, schedule and budget development, procurement of long-lead equipment, and construction interface activities. The Project Manager will collaborate closely with development teams, engineering partners, utility representatives, grid operators, contractors, and project controls personnel to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the interconnection lifecycle for assigned projects, including planning, technical reviews, scheduling, and progress tracking through construction.
- Oversee engineering design for substation facilities and HV switchyards, working with internal and external engineering teams from conceptual stage through detailed design.
- Participate in facilities studies and evaluate options regarding utility-built vs. developer-built interconnection infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, resource plans, and risk strategies.
- Identify and manage procurement of critical long-lead equipment.
- Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and interconnection process milestones.
- Serve as primary point of contact for coordination with transmission operators, independent system operators, permitting entities, owners’ engineers, general contractors, and specialist consultants.
- Support SCADA, metering, and data interface requirements and ensure inclusion in contract scopes.
- Provide oversight of engineering, procurement, and construction activities related to high-voltage assets.
- Negotiate and monitor compliance on contractor and EPC agreements related to interconnection works.
- Conduct periodic site visits to review field progress, troubleshoot issues, and ensure adherence to quality and safety protocols.
- Promote and maintain a safe work culture across all project stakeholders.
- Maintain strong working relationships with all interface parties and define clear communication channels and responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field.
- PMP or relevant professional certification preferred.
- 5+ years' experience managing energy or electrical infrastructure projects.
- Prior involvement in utility-scale renewable energy development, design, or EPC delivery strongly preferred.
- 10+ years' experience working with high-voltage systems or installations.
- Strong background in project scheduling using tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, cash flow forecasts, proposals, and contract documentation.
- Experience preparing bid packages, conducting bid reviews, and negotiating master agreements.
- Knowledge of ISO/RTO interconnection procedures (experience with PJM, MISO, or similar preferred).
- Able to manage multiple priorities and shift quickly based on project demands.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Comfortable reviewing technical scopes, drawings, specifications, and risk items.
