Position Overview

The Chief Electrical Inspector – Compressor Station serves as the senior electrical quality authority on natural gas compressor station construction and upgrade projects. This role oversees all electrical inspection activities from greenfield construction through commissioning, ensuring installations meet client specifications, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements in classified (hazardous) area environments. The Chief Electrical Inspector leads field inspection staff and serves as the primary electrical quality interface with the client and project management team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all electrical inspection activities across the full compressor station project scope, including engine/compressor building electrical, control building, MCC rooms, switchgear, and auxiliary systems
  • Inspect installation of electrical systems in Class I, Division 1 and Division 2 hazardous locations per NEC Article 500 and API 500/505 requirements
  • Verify proper installation of medium and low voltage power distribution, motor control centers, transformers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), UPS systems, and emergency power systems
  • Oversee inspection of instrumentation and controls, including PLC/DCS panels, field instruments, junction boxes, cable trays, and conduit systems
  • Review electrical and instrument drawings, one-line diagrams, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, equipment data sheets, and area classification drawings
  • Witness and document functional testing, loop checks, megger testing, hi-pot testing, and pre-commissioning electrical activities
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, API 500/505, ASME, OSHA, and client-specific electrical standards
  • Manage and mentor field electrical inspectors and inspection personnel assigned to the project
  • Review and approve daily inspection reports, NCRs, and corrective action plans
  • Coordinate punch list development, resolution tracking, and turnover package preparation
  • Serve as the primary electrical inspection point of contact for client representatives and project engineers
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings, constructability reviews, and project schedule coordination


Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of electrical inspection experience with a strong focus on natural gas compression, midstream, or energy facility construction
  • Demonstrated experience in a lead or chief inspector capacity on compressor station projects
  • In-depth knowledge of hazardous area electrical installations (Class I, Div 1 & 2) and applicable NEC and API standards
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical, instrumentation, and control system drawings
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license (preferred) or equivalent hands-on field experience
  • NCCER Electrical certification or equivalent (preferred)
  • OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel and work on remote project sites
