WELDING INSPECTOR — METER STATION
POSITION SUMMARY The Welding Inspector – Meter Station performs on-site inspection and documentation of all welding activities associated with meter station construction and installation. Working under the direction of the Chief Inspector or QA/QC Manager, this individual ensures all welding scopes are executed in accordance with approved WPSs, project specifications, client requirements, and applicable codes. A current AWS CWI certification is required for this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform visual and dimensional inspection of all welds on meter station piping, structural, and equipment tie-in scopes
- Review and verify welder qualifications, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs), and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs) prior to work commencement
- Monitor preheat, interpass temperature, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) requirements per applicable code and project specifications
- Witness and document fit-up, root, fill, and cap passes on critical welds; enforce hold and witness points per the ITP
- Coordinate and document NDE activities including RT, UT, MT, and PT; review NDE reports for accuracy and compliance
- Identify and document weld defects; initiate NCRs and track repairs through to accepted re-inspection
- Verify consumable traceability, storage, and handling (low-hydrogen requirements, bake-out procedures, etc.)
- Maintain accurate daily weld logs, inspection records, and photo documentation
- Review contractor as-built weld maps and ensure all weld records are complete for turnover packages
- Communicate inspection findings clearly to the Chief Inspector, contractor supervision, and client representatives as required
- Participate in daily safety meetings and adhere to all site HSE requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of welding inspection experience on oil and gas pipeline, midstream, or facility construction projects
- Current AWS CWI certification — required, no exceptions
- Strong working knowledge of API 1104, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, and ASME Section IX
- Experience with carbon steel and stainless steel piping systems; familiarity with alloy materials a plus
- Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, weld maps, WPSs, and engineering specifications
- Hands-on experience coordinating NDE activities and reviewing RT/UT/MT/PT reports
- Solid documentation skills; experience with ITP hold/witness points and NCR processes
- Ability to work independently and make sound inspection decisions in the field
