Assistant Project Manager – Substation Construction
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the construction and delivery of substation projects associated with utility-scale solar facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional looking to expand their experience into high-voltage substation construction.
Candidates with direct substation or utility-scale solar experience are highly desired; however, we are also open to individuals with strong construction backgrounds who have the desire and ability to learn substation construction.
Project Details
• Locations: Texas, Alabama, North Carolina, and Illinois
• Fully on-site position
• Schedule: 5x10s
• Overtime paid at 1.5x
• Per diem paid at applicable GSA rate
• Contract-to-hire opportunity
Responsibilities
• Support the Project Manager with the day-to-day management of substation construction activities
• Assist with project schedules, budgets, procurement, subcontractors, documentation, and reporting
• Coordinate with field supervision, engineering, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders
• Track project progress, milestones, deliverables, and outstanding action items
• Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and other project documentation
• Support material and equipment tracking to ensure alignment with construction schedules
• Participate in project meetings and communicate schedule, cost, safety, and quality concerns
• Assist with subcontractor coordination and monitor field progress against project plans
• Support quality control, safety, commissioning, turnover, and project closeout activities
• Maintain accurate project records and provide regular updates to project leadership
• Develop an understanding of substation construction sequencing, equipment, testing, and commissioning
Qualifications
• Previous experience in construction, project engineering, project coordination, or assistant project management
• Substation, transmission, electrical infrastructure, renewable energy, or utility-scale solar experience preferred but not required
• Candidates with general construction experience and a strong interest in learning substation construction will be considered
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to coordinate multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
• Comfortable working full-time on active construction sites
• Willingness to travel or relocate to project locations as required
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; relevant field experience will also be considered
