Field Project Engineer – Substation Construction


We are seeking Field Project Engineers to support substation construction projects associated with utility-scale solar facilities. This position will work directly on-site alongside project management, field supervision, subcontractors, engineering teams, and other project stakeholders.


This opportunity is well suited for candidates who already have substation or utility-scale solar experience, as well as construction professionals who want to develop their careers within high-voltage substation construction.


Project Details

• Locations: Texas, Alabama, North Carolina, and Illinois

• Fully on-site position

• Schedule: 5x10s

• Overtime paid at 1.5x

• Per diem paid at applicable GSA rate

• Contract-to-hire opportunity


Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day field engineering support for substation construction activities

• Work closely with project management and field supervision to coordinate construction activities and resolve field issues

• Review drawings, specifications, construction documents, and technical requirements

• Assist with RFIs, submittals, material tracking, procurement, and document control

• Monitor field progress and help ensure construction activities align with drawings, specifications, schedule, and quality requirements

• Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, engineering teams, and field personnel

• Track materials and major equipment required for upcoming construction activities

• Assist with inspections, quality documentation, punch lists, testing, commissioning, and turnover

• Participate in daily and weekly project meetings and provide updates on field activities

• Identify potential construction issues and work with project leadership to develop solutions

• Maintain accurate field documentation, reports, and project records

• Develop hands-on knowledge of substation construction, equipment installation, testing, and commissioning


Qualifications

• Previous experience in construction, field engineering, project engineering, or a similar role

• Substation, transmission, electrical infrastructure, renewable energy, or utility-scale solar experience preferred but not required

• Candidates with general construction experience who demonstrate a strong desire to learn substation construction will be considered

• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications

• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

• Comfortable working directly in an active construction environment

• Willingness to travel or relocate to project locations as required

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred; relevant construction experience will also be considered
