Job Title: Sr. Controls Engineer (SCADA)

Location: Houston, TX

Travel: Up to 5–20% (primarily U.S. locations)


We are seeking a Sr. Controls Engineer (SCADA) to join our innovative team focused on advancing energy generation and storage technologies. This role blends expertise in SCADA systems and Instrumentation & Controls Engineering to support the design, development, and optimization of reciprocating engine and battery energy storage systems across multiple sites. You will work cross-functionally with engineering, field, and operations teams to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable system performance.

Key Responsibilities


  • Design and implement SCADA and I&C systems for thermal power plants and battery energy storage assets.
  • Integrate new and existing generation assets with SCADA for real-time monitoring and control.
  • Develop communication protocols and ensure seamless interaction between field devices, control systems, and central platforms.
  • Design and optimize control algorithms for performance, efficiency, and safety.
  • Analyze SCADA and I&C system data to drive operational improvements and system reliability.
  • Troubleshoot complex hardware/software issues across control systems and instrumentation networks.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of system anomalies and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with ERCOT, NEC, NFPA, ISA, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Specify, select, and procure sensors, actuators, controllers, and related hardware.
  • Document system configurations, changes, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance and cross-functional support throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Contribute to internal training and promote a strong safety culture across teams.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience with SCADA systems and/or instrumentation & controls engineering in energy, power generation, or similar sectors.
  • Proficiency with SCADA platforms (e.g., Wonderware, GE iFix, Siemens WinCC) and protocols (e.g., DNP3, Modbus, OPC, IEC 61850).
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, sensors, and actuators.
  • Experience with programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, MATLAB) and tools (e.g., Simulink, LabVIEW).
  • Familiarity with data analytics, visualization, and database tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL, Excel).
  • Knowledge of ERCOT grid operations, energy markets, or regulatory requirements is a strong plus.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including weekends or on-call, when necessary.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
